Easy Hair How-To with your new Lilla Rose accessories (Flexi-Clip & U-Pin)

I do quick and easy hairstyle demos when I’m at craft and vendor shows, and when I do parties.  Sometime ladies say, “I hope I can do that when I get home!”  Well, this post is just for you!  🙂  This video shows the easy Flexi-Clip twist I most often show, as well as two styles you can do with U-Pins (which works for hair sticks as well).

Lilla Rose, Inc. has also made some style videos to help you!

For even more video help, check out the Sizing & Styling page on my website!  If you need more help, please reach out!  I don’t want anyone to not use their accessories because they don’t know how.

Tangles: 5 tips to help detangle little girl hair!

Y’all, I sell beautiful hair accessories and have three daughters. You’d think that hair is a priority in our house. But we’re a busy family, and honestly, with these super comfortable hair accessories, we sleep in the same style, so often our hair is the last thing we think of.

29351960_1725169690839191_1968109102044441467_o

Many times, I’m quickly fixing ponytails as we walk into the church building (or co-op or the grocery store), and hoping nobody notices the tangles that didn’t get removed… even though I reminded them to brush their hair.

As cool as it might be to just let them grow out dreads, I’m just not ready for that. So for now, I’ll continue harping the importance of brushing your hair every single day. Some tricks we’ve learned to make this process a little less agonizing (aka a few less tears):

  1. When bathing, leave conditioner on the hair for at least 5 minutes,
  2. Use a spray-on detangler immediately after bathing on towel dried hair, and again later when brushing out tangles,
  3. For a natural detangler, massage lavender and orange essential oil into the hair,
  4. Invest in a tangle brush,
  5. Occupy their mind with something to do while brushing.

That’s not too hard, right? So let’s get to detangling!

BTW, If you’re not using a tangle brush, I urge you to check out the link below for the Teazer! These work great! My thick haired daughter uses the Thick & Curly, while my other two use a regular tangle brush.

One of those days

wordswag_1525988318961808452499.pngHave you ever had one of those days?

No, not a bad day (that’s coming); but a day when you saw yourself and thought, “Wow! That’s me? That actually looks good!”

I had one of my daughters take a picture of my hair this morning because I was going to use it for Instagram, if it turned out ok. I did a simple hairband tuck with a Flexi twist in the back.

You can’t even see the hairband in the photo and there were about 15 blurry shots to this one shot. But I liked it! And that surprised me. And then I realized that God was using this to teach me something.

In our homeschool, the kids and I have been studying James.

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.

– James 1:2-3

We’ve been having some deep discussions about trials and having a firm foundation. I’ve explained to them that my goal is to give them a firm foundation, to hide the Word so deep in their hearts that it automatically comes out when they face trials. That was my experience. I know it works to get me through horrendous trials. I want that for them.

I tell them, it doesn’t matter what the trial, what the world throws at you, what the deceiver tries to convince you of. If you know who God is and what the Bible really says, you don’t have to fall for it. I even wrote down a few things for them to make this point. These things I know to be true, based on who I know God to be and what His word says…even through the trials:

  • He is faithful and true to his word.
  • He is always for me.
  • He always loves me and follows hard after me.
  • He will always protect me, even through the darkest night.
  • He will never change.
  • He can never be taken away from me.
  • He will always give me direction if I ask him.
  • He will always make himself known to me when I feel alone.
  • He knows pain of betrayal.
  • He knows loss.
  • He knows what it feels like to be mocked and rejected.
  • He knows me inside and out. He loves me anyway!
  • He knows my heart when I draw it back from everyone else.
  • He will not let me stumble.
  • He will carry me through.
  • He was with me from my first breath and will be with me beyond my last.
  • He walks with me every day of my life.
  • He will never leave me.
  • He gave his life to be with me.

Now let me tell you a few things that have happened the last two weeks. We returned home from the trip to California (think vacation laundry) to discover that our washing machine had died. In the next three days, two of the children had a stomach bug. Still no washing machine. Hubby was working extra days and not home much. We have a fencing project going, and were ready to stretch the goat wire. Again, failure. The washing machine part arrived but the washer still doesn’t work. Then it started smelling hot on top of not draining. The lawnmower launched a projectile across the yard, completely shattering the back window of my van. Completely. Then the other lawnmower quit.

And one of my daughters was practicing her memory verse, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, when you face trials of many kinds…” on me. Thank you, Child.

Maybe it seems like this doesn’t do with the hair picture, but it does. Our (very relative, third world) trials and my seeing the bad in myself are working together. How will I respond?

I’m going to be thankful.

  • I’m thankful that I still have my hair and my accessories always look good!
  • I’m thankful that I don’t have to carry my laundry to the creek and wash it on a rock!
  • I’m thankful for a hard working husband!
  • I’m thankful that only two of six got the stomach bug!
  • I’m thankful that my husband’s car wasn’t damaged!
  • I’m thankful that none of my children were in the way of that projectile!
  • I’m thankful that my son is strong and still able to push mow!
  • I’m thankful for so much more that I can’t event write it all out!

So…all that came pouring into me today from one surprised reaction to a good hair day. I can choose to consider it all joy and look for things in which to be thankful! I can choose to give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for me! And whether things look up or not, I still have that firm foundation…And God will see me through.

When March comes roaring in…

Yes, it feels like March arrived a little early, as the end of February has been not just rainy, but windy. And I mean windy.

Have I ever mentioned that I don’t like wind? Well, I don’t. I don’t like it blowing my hair around or in my ears.

While I can’t change the weather, there is something I can do about the wind blowing my hair… put it up!

I was so excited to have earned our January Stylist Incentive from my company; and today, I found it in my mailbox! The girls and I were so excited, in fact, that we did the unboxing right in the car, in the post office parking lot!

I love the natural look of these new accessories!

Pantone’s 2018 Color of the Year

I was so excited to see this year’s Pantone Color of the Year! And if you know me, you know why!

I used to tell people that I selected my college because I liked their school colors best. I might go as far as to say that every year’s Color of the Year should be purple… But that might offend someone… Like my middle daughter.

Here are a few of the Ultra Violet accessories you may see me sporting this year (or any year, for that matter!). Comfortable, beautiful, durable, Ultra Violet accessories!

I guess we’ll just leave the powers that be alone and let them pick a new color next year, but deep in my heart the Color of the Year will always be purple. Or Ultra Violet 18-3838.

“The Pantone Color of the Year has come to mean so much more than ‘what’s trending’ in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today.” – Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute.

Yes, indeed, the world would be a better place with more purple in it. It’s “what’s needed in our world today;” more purple, people!

I am also excited that I’ll be bringing more Ultra Violet into my garden this spring! My garden was greatly lacking in purple last year, but thanks to Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, I’ll be remedying that as well! Watch for these beauties in upcoming garden posts this spring and summer:

Purple power!

Eight Hostess Tips for a Successful Style Up

Congratulations on joining a very special group of Hostesses! As your Stylist, my job is to give you the tips to help you have the most successful event possible.

Hostess Love

  1. Personally invite no more than 50 friends. In this world of impersonal “friends,” this step goes a looking way! Call, message or text each person individually to invite them to your event. Invite only those that you believe would benefit from our product, ladies that enjoy wearing their hair up, enjoy wearing jewelry & some bling, or are just fun to have at your party! Invite ladies that you know well enough that you would invite them into your home. **Do not ADD them** to the FB event until they have responded positively! For easy text message invites, go here: Easy text messages to invite your guests. One more time, this is a personal invitation, not a group message or add without consent.
  2. Offer outside ordering to those that can’t attend. Communicate with your guests before your event. We hate for anyone to miss out on learning about this amazing product, so help them out! This also helps you get the most out of your hostess rewards. You’ll see the direct catalog link on the event page.
  3. Make a Wish List from your catalog. I bet you’ve already got a jump start on that step! Remember that our online catalog has many more options than our paper catalog. Feel free to take screen shots of your favorite items and post them on your event page so your guests know what you’re shooting for! If you don’t have a paper catalog, but would like one, please let me know ASAP.
  4. Comment on everything I post on the event page. Be excited! Your guests don’t know me; they want to hear from you. After all, you wouldn’t invite them to your home and then ignore them, would you?
  5. You are the celebrity endoresement! Post photos with your Flexi-Clips, if you have them, or post pictures of the ones you wish you had. (See #3 above!)
  6. Tag friends in the posts when appropriate. Comments like, “This would be great for you, @Janet,” or “This one would look gorgeous in your hair, @Rosaline,” will help your guests make their selections.
  7. Ask questions. If you have questions about the products, how to do a hairstyle, or the business opportunity, don’t be afraid to ask! Some of your friends might be wondering the same things.
  8. Thank the guests that join the event, and afterwards, those that place an order. I will do thank you posts and you can comment right on those.

BONUS: I thought this article would look strange with an odd number of tips, so I made this one a “bonus!” This is actually more a reiteration of the most important points – personal contact & interaction. As the Hostess, the success of your event largely depends on your involvement. If you click on the invite button and never talk to anyone, I’m sad to say, you will not have a successful event. Your guests need to hear your excitement and love for the product in your conversations with them, as well as in your comments, and they need to see the product in your hair; otherwise, it’s just another invite that gets no attention.
