Is there any surprise here? The Flexi SPORT launched on September 1, 2021, and as of June 2023, I still believe the SPORT is the perfect summer accessory!
The Flexi SPORT has been in research & development for years! It was first revealed to Stylists at our National Convention in 2018, and called the Flexi2. John has worked with engineers and product testers for even longer before that, trying to find the perfect materials that would hold up to the rigorous use of our amazing hair accessories.
What he came up with is a no-slip grip that’s perfect for high ponytails, active lifestyles, children, water activities… and just every day! (in fact, I’ve had one since July 2021 and my youngest has been wearing it pretty much 24/7 since then!)
This video features my oldest daughter using the Sport to make a low ponytail, which is what she does every. single. day.
Currently, the Sport is available in TWO sizes – Medium Flip Size… which can be used as a Medium, Small or Extra Small, so it is extremely versatile! The SPORT is a comfortable, no slip, grippy material – made with Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE). Inside the 8 portion is a high tensile strength spring steel (the same material that the wire in our Flips are made with). A high grade polycarbonate is used for the sliding pin. All parts are latex free and there is no exposed metal.
It’s 100% waterproof! Perfect for swimming, boating and other water sports!

Key points of warning: TPE is a fantastic material in it’s durability, flexibility, and more! However it is susceptible to heat. You’re going to want to make sure to check your pockets in the laundry room. One of our Stylists accidentally washed, and dried, her Sport. It was not good. (Many of us have washed and dried the original Flexi-Clip with little to no damage.) Also, I live in Texas, where the heat in the car can become deadly in just a few minutes. Your new Flexi Sport would likely not survive that either.
ETA in June 2023, about durability: Now that the Extra size is available, I recommend using the Medium SPORT for thinner hair, half ups and ponytails, but the Extra SPORT size for twists and styles that have ALL of your hair up, or for thicker hair ponytails. The polycarbonate pin IS sturdy, but if you attempt to put too much hair in the clip, or if you wear the clip super tight, it’s not going to be quite as strong as your Flexi-CLIP pin that’s made from nickel-pated zinc.
